Materials
Western red cedar. Cedar's natural oils resist rot and insects without chemical treatment, which is why it is favoured for garden structures.
Intended use
Defining a dining or lounge area on a patio, shading a doorway, or supporting wisteria, grapevine, or climbing roses.
Assembly
Substantial build. Plan for two or more people and a full day. Posts must be secured to a suitable footing or anchored to an existing slab.
Care
Leave to weather to silver-grey, or apply an exterior wood finish to retain the warmer tone. Inspect fixings annually.
